Community Council Minutes

Minutes from September 17, 2015 Meeting

I.  In attendance:  Justin Willie, Marie Hunter, Tyson Hunter, Melanie Wilhelmsen, Nanette Butt, Jennifer Hansen, Angela James, Nicole McGerry

II.  Marie Hunter reviewed the duties of the Community Council.  She referred council members to visit schooltrustland.org for additional information.

III.  The council voted to Re-elect Melanie Wilhelmsen as Community Council Secretary for the 2015-2016 school year.  Nicole McGerry nominated, Nanette Butt seconded the motion and all were in favor.

IV.  Justin Willie reviewed the Trustland Report for the 2014-2015 school year.  The trustland money was used to pay for classroom aides, ReadingEggs software and Dreambox software.

V.  Justin Willie reviewed with the council an amendment to the current Trustland Plan.  Under Goal 1, the ReadingEggs software was initially listed (along with DIBELS) as an assessment and data gathering tool.  In the amendment, ReadingEggs software will be used by teachers and students to supplement language arts instruction in the classroom.  However, the data and assessment tools in ReadingEggs will not be used to determine or evaluate student progress.  DIBELS will be used to assess student progress.

VI.  The community council voted on the above-stated amendment to the Trustland Plan.  Marie Hunter motioned to make the amendment.  Angela James seconded the motion.  All were in favor.

VII.  Justin Willie informed the council that PLCs will be held with the teachers during PE or library time rather than on Wednesday mornings.  PLCs will focus on planning instruction.  Teachers will meet with the other teacher who teachers the same grade and together they will share strategies and techniques relevant to planning instruction.

VIII.  The community council reviewed the meeting schedule for the 2015-2016 school year.  The next community council meeting will be November 19th @3:30 pm in the media center at MarLon Hills Elementary School.  The tentative meeting dates for the remainder of the school year are:  January 21st @ 3:30 pm and March 17th @ 3:30 pm.  These dates may be changed to accommodate the community council at Club Heights Elementary as the two community councils will need to meet together to create the 2016-2017 Burch Creek Elementary Trustland Plan.

IX.  Jennifer Hansen, 2015-2016 MarLon Hills PTA Co-President, invited all community council members to attend monthly PTA meetings.

X.  Angela James shared the MarLon Hills Safety Plan with the community council and the council recommended some additions regarding sidewalk safety for children walking to and from school.

XI.  Marie Hunter motioned to adjourn the meeting.  Jennifer Hansen seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the meeting was adjourned.
